This talk will delve into the dynamic relationship between experimental writing across various publishing mediums, from traditional print forms to hybrid digital platforms and born-digital electronic literature. By examining the works of authors such as Julio Cortázar, Italo Calvino, Nanni Balestrini, Milorad Pavić, and Madhur Anand, who challenge the linear structure of books, alongside contemporary writers like David Markson, Jena Osman, Graham Rawles, and Lance Olson, who employ fragmentation and collage techniques in their experimental creations, the discussion will shed light on the intersection of form and content in literature.

We will also examine hybrid projects by Dennis Cooper, Paul Le Farge, and Geoff Ryman, which straddle the realms of the internet and traditional print, to understand how they navigate between these mediums. These examples will serve as a springboard for contemplating the concept of "Bookishness" in the context of digital platforms, as well as the novelty of digital literature beyond the confines of traditional books.

Clark will then explore how these experimental literary traditions have influenced net art and authors who explore interactivity and hypertext across various digital platforms. The discussion will include a diverse array of examples, including Clark's own net art hypertext work "88 Constellations for Wittgenstein," offering insights into the evolution of literary expression in the digital age.
